Mathematician Jan Krajíček wins prestigious Shoenfield Prize

The Association for Symbolic Logic has awarded the Shoenfield Prize to Jan Krajíček of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University, a member of the Learned Society.

One of the most significant prizes in mathematical logic, it is awarded once every three years for outstanding expository writing in the field. Prof. Krajíček received it for his book Proof Complexity, Encyclopedia of Mathematics and Its Applications, no. 170 (Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 2019).

Proof complexity is one of the fields bridging mathematical logic and computational complexity theory. It addresses fundamental mathematical questions such as the so-called P versus NP problem. The book presents the field in its full breadth and depth, and outlines possible directions for future research.
