XXV. valné shromáždění Učené společnosti ČR

V pondělí 20. května 2019 proběhla ve Velké aule Karolina slavnostní část XXV. valného shromáždění Učené společnosti, na které byly předány Medaile Učené společnosti České republiky Societas Scientiarum Bohemica, Ad Laudem et Honorem a ceny Učené společnosti ČR v kategoriích „mladší vědecký pracovník“ a „středoškolský student.“ Dále byly uděleny ceny Učené společnosti ČR pro pedagogy.

Bolzanovská přednáška prof. Kipa S. Thorne

Na pozvání Učené společnosti navštívíl Prahu americký fyzik Kip S. Thorne, nositel Nobelovy ceny za rok 2017 za detekci gravitačních vln. Pro Učenou společnost pronesl 15. 5. 2019 v Modré posluchárně Karolina v sérii „Bolzanovských přednášek“ přednášku „Creating Gravitational-Wave Astronomy“. Přednáška se uskutečnila s podporou Nadace Karla Janečka a setkala se s velkým ohlasem.
